There is no doubt that the Adriatic Sea along the Croatian coast is a stunning stretch of gorgeous archipelago. During the day, crystal clear water ranges in color from cobalt blue to turquoise in varying intensity depending on sunlight and depth. The beauty of Croatia is not just about gorgeous beaches and crystal clear water. Flowing rivers and lakes in the interior of the country have a range of waterfalls and are a great competitor to the country's 'sea and sun' tourism.

The town of Skradin is a small town near Šibenik, located between the Krka River and the entrance to the Krka National Park. The main attraction in this area is of course the Krka National Park - a series of waterfalls with the largest waterfall called "Skradinski buk" (buk - waterfall).

The road to the waterfalls offers no less beautiful views. When you start your trip to the waterfalls, Skradin is the destination from where you take the "boat trip" to the waterfalls or drive to. Whether you reach Skradin by car or boat, the view is something you will surely remember. It is a 10 nm long "picture-perfect" bay with a charming town waiting for you at the end. The sailing in this long bay is memorable because of the large mountains that accompany the entire journey and provide a unique and magical experience, unusual for sailing in the Adriatic.

Historically, Skradin dates back to the Illyrians when it was called Scardona and served as a capital. Since then, the city has been captured, destroyed and rebuilt under different rulers. Over time, the city's importance crumbled, and all that was preserved of the past were a few pieces that include a church, a bell tower and a fortress.

Skardin is long known for its lung port and silence, a small port town surrounded by shops, restaurants and a small tourist information bureau. An interesting tourist attraction that still exists in Skradin is the possibility of riding a donkey. This attraction was a normal occurrence in the past when donkeys were the main transport but today they are just a symbol of Dalmatia. A quiet walk in the early morning, in total silence, and a visit to the fortress is the best way to see the finest views of the town.

Krka National Park has a wide range of both flora and fauna, with over 800 species of plants, over 200 species of birds and 18 different species of bats calling the park home. As we mentioned before "Skradinski buk" is the largest among the waterfalls with a collection of 17 waterfalls varying in height of over 45 meters, and is one of the main attractions along the small island of "Visovac" and "Roski Slap".

Visovac is a small island in the middle of the Krka River, with a monastery and a church dating back to 1576. The monastery contains a number of well-preserved artifacts and a library.

Roski Salp - is another famous sight within the Krka National Park, a series of 12 waterfalls in a space of 450 meters, the largest being just over 22 meters in height and 60 meters in width.

We recommend - the best way to see the sights in the park is to join a boat trip, which, among other things, usually departs from Skradin. This way, you'll be able to see the beauty of the park up close (and in a relaxed way) and get a chance to stop and hike on trails along the water, as well as presentations and talks from guides. Swimming is allowed so be sure to bring your swimwear. You will definitely want to spend a whole day here.

The entrance to the national park in mid-season is around 100 HRK for an adult.
