Before your sailing trip in the Caribbean

Cancellation insurance

Cancellation insurance is not included in the trip, but you can buy it if you wish. To do so now, click here. It is important that you buy the cancellation insurance when you book the trip if you wish to do so, as cancellation insurance cannot be purchased afterwards. Cancellation insurance can be purchased no later than 48 hours after you have paid for your trip. Please check whether you have cancellation cover in your home insurance or via your bank.

Passports and valuable documents

You must be in possession of a passport valid for 6 months from the date of return. For security reasons, take copies of important travel documents. Visas are not required for travelers with Swedish passports or other EU citizens. For other nationalities and non-EU citizens, please check what applies in your specific case.

Travel insurance

Make sure you have good travel insurance or check with your home insurance. It is also possible to purchase travel insurance through More Sailing, you can do this until the day before departure. To buy travel insurance now, click here.

Check that you have provided us with all the information

Before your sailing trip, we need to have all first and last names, with correct spelling according to passport. If the name is misspelled or you have entered a nickname, it may cause problems to change and extra fees. Please also enter the date of birth and passport number of all travelers, as well as the email address and phone number of those who will have access to the traveler's customer portal. If you have any allergies or special requests regarding food, it is important that you enter this in the customer portal well in advance of the trip so we can adapt the food to your needs. If you are several people traveling together, it is very important that you, as the booking manager, share the information you receive from us with your fellow travelers or alternatively enter your fellow travelers' e-mail addresses in the customer portal so that they also have access to the information.

Optional on Excess 15

On this boat it is possible to book a larger cabin for SEK 1500 in addition per person. Contact us if you are interested. There is a limited number of double cabins, so first come first served. If you would like to bring a SUP on the boat, it is available for rent, contact us at boka@moresailing.se to see if it is available (at extra cost).

Sailing in the Caribbean and living on board a boat

Living on board a boat is not that different from living at home, the main difference being that you have limited space, water and electricity on board. When moored to a buoy or at anchor, you need to be careful to use water sparingly and take short showers. While sailing, you can charge cell phones etc. via 12v outlets and 220V outlets can be used when you are in the marina because you can then connect to shore power. On the larger boats that we sail with in the Caribbean there is a generator, when it is running you can use the 220v sockets even without shore power. In the ports there are also showers and toilets ashore. The crew on board sleeps either in the skipper's cabin(s) or in the boat's saloon.

While sailing in the Caribbean, the majority of nights are spent at the buoy or at anchor, when you can take the dinghy ashore to discover the destination and have dinner.

Departure from Sweden

It is important to check your flight departure time the day before departure. Sometimes airlines make late changes and the time you have on your ticket may change. If you check in online you will see the current departure time, but even if you don't, check the airline's website for the latest departure time.

If there is a problem at check-in or departure at the airport and the airline cannot help you, call us on the emergency number 031-30 96 300 and press 1. We are available at departure from 05:30.

Exchange in London

When you land in London on your outbound flight, collect your luggage and head to the hotel we have booked for you. We have uploaded a hotel voucher, a prepaid reservation that you can find in the customer portal. The hotel you are staying at is within walking distance (very close) to the South Terminal of London Gatwick Airport. The next morning when you are due to fly, arrive at the airport in good time, preferably at least 2.5 hours before the flight is due to depart. It is easy for queues to be long and it takes time to check in and go through security.

On your return flight, collect your luggage again in London and go back to the check-in desk to re-check in for your flight to your destination.

Arrival in Grenada

The flight to Grenada, Caribbean goes via London. Once at Grenada airport, you will go through passport control and collect your checked-in luggage. In the arrival hall, our driver will meet you with a More Sailing sign. From here it takes about 20-30 minutes by car to Grenada Yacht Club, which is our home marina here in Grenada.

At the marina you will be met by your skipper and host who will take care of you on the trip. Upon arrival at the marina, it is usually dark, which means that the first night is usually spent in the marina and you cast off the next morning. In case of emergencies on departure or arrival, call our emergency number 031-30 96 300 and press 1 and you will be transferred to staff on site.

On board the aircraft to Grenada, you will be given a piece of paper to fill in, declaring your entry into Grenada-St. Lucia. On this paper you should fill in your personal details and where you will be during your stay. Fill in that you will be on "Sailing vessel" and fill in Grenada Yacht Club as Marina as location, you will also need to fill in the name of the boat, where you write"Tranquillity " (even if you will sail with another catamaran).

Air tickets

Your airline tickets will be uploaded in the customer portal approximately two weeks before departure. You will receive a flight ticket to London and a separate flight ticket to St Lucia. These are completely separate bookings, therefore you will need to collect your checked baggage in London in both directions and go out to the departure lounge and then recheck in, then go through security again. You may check one suitcase weighing a maximum of 23 kg and one piece of hand luggage weighing a maximum of 7 kg, on both flights.

For those who booked the trip without flights to Grenada

If you have booked the trip without flights and transfers, you are responsible for getting to the Grenada Yacht Club and from there on the return journey. Before the start of the trip, you will be given the contact details of your skipper or host to meet you on the day of departure at the marina in Grenada.

Lifejacket

There are life jackets on board the boat that can be used at any time and should be used when the skipper or host deems it necessary. If you prefer to wear a more flexible lifejacket, you are welcome to bring it.

We will call the booking agent for your reservation before departure to provide travel information and answer any questions you may have.

Learn more about sailing while traveling

Don't forget to ask the crew on board if you want to learn more about sailing during the trip. Our skilled skippers and hosts are happy to share their knowledge, and anyone who wants to can try their hand at the helm, hoisting sails and reading charts.

Food & drinks on board

Breakfast and lunch are included in the trip as well as all drinks on board in the form of water, soft drinks, coffee / tea, beer and wine (limited selection). Every evening we dock for buoy, in a harbor or in a bay where there is at least one but usually several restaurants to choose from. When we dock in a bay, the dinghy is taken to shore and the restaurant. The crew on board will be happy to help with tips on good restaurants and to book a table.

Packing list

Pack in a soft bag that you can easily fold and stow away on the boat, hard bags take up a lot of space in the cabin. In addition to packing what you usually pack when you go on a sun vacation, also keep in mind that the sunlight is reflected by the water around the boat. Suggested packing list:

-A pair of good sunglasses

-Sunscreen with high protection factor

-Hat or cap

-Swimming shoes or sandals

-Shoes on board the boat must only have light or white soles, it is best to go barefoot.

-Mosquito repellent

-Many pairs of swimwear

-Something to read

-Board games, UNO, deck of cards

-Snorkeling gear if you want to snorkel in the gorgeous turquoise water

-Seasickness tablets if you get seasick easily

-A thinner raincoat or windbreaker if there is a shower or if the wind feels chilly.

-Extra beach towel, as only one towel per person is included. Please bring a clothespin or rubber band to mark the beach towel during the week to avoid confusion (sheets and pillowcases included).

Pack a first change of clothes in your hand luggage - in the unlikely event that your luggage is delayed, it is an advantage to have a change of clothes, swimwear and toothbrush in your hand luggage.

Passenger's responsibility

Please note that it is always the traveler's ultimate responsibility to keep abreast of the rules that apply upon departure/entry and the requirements for visas, vaccinations/tests and health declarations as well as insurance requirements. During the journey

If there is anything during your trip that does not meet your expectations, we want to know about it right away. We aim to solve problems on the spot, so it is important that you inform our staff on site. Don't wait until you get home.

Currency in the Caribbean

In both Grenada and the Grenadines, the official currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar (xCD). US dollars are also accepted but usually at a lower exchange rate. In many of the restaurants and shops that you will visit during your trip, they prefer cash payment. There are ATMs at the airport in Grenada and also at the marina on site. At some of the stops there are ATMs. At times it is possible to change into Eastern Caribbean dollars in Sweden, but the currency must be ordered and it is generally easier to get cash once you land in Grenada.

As of April 23, 2024, one East Caribbean dollar is about 4.00 SEK. A dinner ashore costs about 60-120 EC per person. To get an overview of how much cash is good to take out, a benchmark is about 100-150 EC per person per day. (This is highly personal of course.)

Vaccinations

The current recommendations for sailing in the Caribbean for less than three weeks are

Updated basic protection, (tetanus, diphtheria)
Possible Cholera protection
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B

However, you need to complete the vaccination no later than one month before your departure. Please carry your yellow vaccination book with you if you have one next time you are vaccinated.

Weather in the Caribbean

The Caribbean has a fairly constant weather with temperatures between 27-32 degrees. The tropical climate means that there are occasional warm showers, especially when visiting islands with high peaks. The water tends to maintain a steady temperature of 27 degrees. The trade winds are also constant and make the sailing experience something special as wind speeds are rarely below 7 m/s and can reach up to 17 m/s.

Wi-Fi

In the Caribbean, internet access is very limited. Some ports and restaurants have Wi-Fi which you can use frequently, but in general it is very limited both on land and at sea. The boat has no Wi-Fi.

The Caribbean or the West Indies?

The Caribbean or the West Indies? It doesn't matter, because they are the same thing. The Caribbean is a chain of islands located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. It is a string of islands that starts off the coast of Florida and extends all the way down to Venezuela.

We sail in the southern part of the Caribbean starting from St. Lucia. During our voyages we sail in two different nations, one consisting of only one island with the same name, St. Lucia and the nation of St. Vincent and the Grenadines consisting of one larger island and about 30 smaller islands. The Grenadines archipelago is divided and belongs to two different nations, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the nation of Grenada, which is also one of the larger islands in the area. The larger islands of the Grenadines are Bequia, Mustique, Canouan, Tobago Cays, Mayreau, Union Island and Petit Saint Vincent.

Between December and March, the average temperature is between 24-28 degrees in the air and about 26 degrees in the water. There is a risk of rain but it is short and intense showers. Even if it rains, the air is warm.

St. Lucia

The beautiful Caribbean island of St. Lucia is home to volcanic, palm-fringed beaches, excellent dive sites, countless small luxury resorts and some charming fishing villages. With a lush interior of soaring mountains, dense rainforest, fertile valleys and acres of banana plantations, St Lucia is most characterized by the Pitons - a pair of dramatically tapered mountains on the southwest coast. Hike through the rainforest to discover magnificent waterfalls, zipline in the treetops or watch boiling sulfur springs bubble atop a volcano. If you've still got the energy for a night out, you'll find lively nightlife in the north of the island.
