Train travel: How a sailing trip by train works instead of plane

25 August 2019

Nowadays, More Sailing offers train travel to our sailing trips in Croatia, Greece and Italy instead of traveling by plane. In addition, we climate compensate your sailing trip. If you choose train travel, we replace your airline ticket with a so-called Interrail ticket that is valid on all trains within Europe for 5 travel days during a period of 30 days. This means you can plan your train journey any way you want with long or short stops along the way through Europe. You can choose from 40,000 destinations in 31 countries, making it completely free for you to customize your train journey on the way to or from your sailing with More Sailing.

The Interrail Pass is valid for all train journeys on regular, express and night trains, and you can also make seat reservations on each train for a small additional fee. If you want to upgrade your Interrail ticket to more travel days, you can do so for a few hundred dollars. It is also possible to upgrade your Interrail ticket so that you can travel in first class on all trains through Europe. Just contact us and we will tailor the ticket to your needs.

For families with children, train travel is particularly affordable as children up to 11 years old get free Interrail passes, provided that at least one adult buys their Interrail pass at the same time. For each adult, two Interrail Passes for children are included. However, if you travel on trains that require seat reservations, you must reserve a seat for all children over 2 years old. This means that a family with two adults and two to four children under the age of 11 will only pay for the adult passengers.

Train journey, example route to Croatia:

  • The trip starts with any train journey on Friday morning from Sweden to Copenhagen.
  • From Copenhagen the train departs at 11:10 for Hamburg via Rödby with arrival at 16:16.
  • From Hamburg, trains depart at 16:28 towards Munich with arrival at 22:39.
  • From Munich, a night train (sleeper option) departs at 23:20, arriving in Zagreb at 08:35 on Saturday morning.
  • Zagreb is a beautiful city that can be explored in a day, which is possible if you choose the afternoon train.
  • From Zagreb, a train leaves at 15:20 for Split, arriving at 21:23.
  • From the train station in Split you take a taxi to the harbor to the sailboat where we from More Sailing are waiting for you. Taxi is thus not included.

Note that More Sailing only books the Interrail ticket for you and that you choose which train you want to travel with and how long you want to stay at each stop.
