The first More 40 is in the water and the expectations have been met by far. One of the first who had the opportunity to test sail the boat was boat writer Curt "Curre" Gelin who has written a detailed review. More 40 - My goodness what a boat !

Last week the weather in beautiful Croatia was anything but vacation-like. Bura - the famous hard north wind was blowing at over 40 knots near the coast and the charter season seemed clearly over for this year. But I heard that the new More 40 would finally be ready and took the chance to sail the boat despite the conditions. And I entered the port of Kremik after an hour with a big wide smile - my goodness what a great boat, was my immediate reaction.

In the fierce wind, with two reefs and half the jib, the More 40 accelerated so that I felt the pressure behind the steering wheels. The boat almost danced on the water, feeling light and alert. Even better was that the stability feels fine in the sense of sufficient. The boat wanted to broach in the villages, of course, but straightened out immediately when my crew with Finland's best sea captain Hannu Niemelä handled the sails. I liked very much that the steering wheels freewheeled back when I let go of them and after beating. That kind of control and that kind of contact, which prevails in the More 40, all boats with two rudders should have.

But why not double rudders, wouldn't they be needed in the villages? No, the More 40 manages perfectly well with one rudder because it is almost as deep as the keel, narrow and well designed by Maurizio Cosutti. In fact, the rudder feel is just right - 1.75 turns of the composite rudder.

Given its low price and high performance, the More 40 is probably the hottest standard boat you can find at the moment. Whether More Boats is able to increase the pace of construction is unclear, but as the saying goes - those who wait for something good rarely wait too long. So get in line for this very fun racy cruiser signed by ingenious Maurizio Cosutti.
