ARC blog 2019 - Sirli family

Life with the Siri family

We have now been away for 6 days and life at Sirli is moving at a furious pace. Things are happening all the time and I'm starting to realize that the book I had intended to read will probably remain unopened.
It's a strange feeling to be completely cut off from what's happening in the outside world and that our life right now is here and now with the Sirli family far out in the Atlantic.
It's no wonder that everyone gets excited when pods of dolphins appear and want to swim with us, or see a whale doing jumps for joy not far from the boat. Or the sighting of a boat in the distance and the competitive instinct is awakened. Or the joy when someone has made pancakes or rice pudding for breakfast. Or the euphoria that comes from swimming in bright blue water at a depth of 4,000 meters, or when we manage to pull up two fish that turn into the most delicious tartar we've ever eaten, along with freshly fried French fries. Or the calm that settles over our little community when some do yoga on the foredeck and others waltz to Evert Taube on the flybridge. Not to mention the breathtaking feeling of sailing into the sunset and gliding under the endless starry sky into the darkness.
Skeppar-Fredrik drills us in lifesaving, genoa sailing, trimming and knots and doesn't stop until everything is perfect.
It was hard to imagine how life on board would be, but so far it has been fantastic!
After a few days of light winds, we are now heading straight west.
Watch out Shama and Bianco! We have the thrill of victory 🙂

Ship ahoy!
Finally - we are in the trade wind! We are rushing forward with gennaker straight west! Skipper Fredrik trims both us and Sirli, mostly us actually! We learn to sail with feeling without a plotter, the first watch during the day the next watch increases the challenge to sail further with gennaker during the night. A great feeling to sail in the moonlight! So beautiful, big and powerful. Imagine that we are actually here - on the Atlantic Ocean!!!
