ARC 2021: New live update with a good laugh - 1/12

01 December 2021

ARC 2021: Greetings from the brave crew of one of our sailboats "Vi La Ut", which is in its second week of sailing across the Atlantic.

ARC 2021 - Wednesday 1/12

Position

N19 56.03
W36 44.66

Here on Vi La Ut we keep up with the turns, both day and night we have rough seas and make around 7-9kn.

We still eat well and most people are on their feet at their passes, when someone needs extra rest, we stand up for each other and fill the place.

Skippers and first mate take turns to lie beach village in the saloon and now only need to enter periodically. The watch is now a well-oiled machine and we keep a high tempo, you could say.

We perform squall after squall, at night we steer with autopilot staring at the instruments and constantly calibrating the course after the waves throw us either port or starboard. Pressing the buttons is done leaning slightly forward and gives some back pain but also a good laugh.

Join the ARC and sail across the Atlantic

You can read more about ARCand sailing across the Atlantic with More Sailing, as well as book your place for ARC 2022 on one of our brave sailboats sailing across the mighty Great Ocean.

ARC is a friendly race or squadron sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. Each year, between 200 and 300 boats participate in the ARC, including both family sailors and racers. The ARC starts from Gran Canaria at the end of November each year. All boats then reunite on the other side of the Atlantic, on the island of St. Lucia. The ARC Atlantic crossing ends with an awards ceremony and party on St. Lucia just before Christmas.

A week before you set sail from Gran Canaria, the entire crew gathers to sail together. The ARC event starts with an opening ceremony and is followed during the week by lectures and festivities. During this week you will meet excited sailors from all over the world. On board the boat, you will also get to know each other and the boat. While you all prepare, shop and cook all the food for the voyage together. During the week in Las Palmas you also practice maneuvers and test sail the boat together.
